Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, at Long Beach in California. DuVernay was able to explore her artistic and creative side as a child due to her aunt Denise. Her aunt was a nurse who stayed overnight so that she could have the chance to learn about art literature or theater. DuVernay instantly fell in love with the 1959 West Side Story film. DuVernay was raised by an aunt who was socially conscious and showed her how to utilize the arts as a means of expressing herself. DuVernay spent her summers in Lowndes County Alabama, where DuVernay's father was born and raised. Her father was a witness to the historic march of the Civil Rights Movement across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was held in Selma Alabama, a neighboring city. The time she spent in Selma Alabama would later inspire her to write a script for a film based on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as the Civil Rights Movement. DuVernay was awarded her graduation certificate in Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. Upon graduation, DuVernay studied in the University of California Los Angeles and graduated with degrees in English as well as African American study. DuVernay began to develop an interest in journalistic broadcasting while in school. As an intern, she worked for CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay remembers being given the responsibility of looking over the residence and scrutinizing the garbage of one of members of the juries. As a result of her work, she became dissatisfied with journalistic work and entered the publicity business. DuVernay got a job right after college as a publicist in the young age of a studio. The company she founded for her own PR, The DuVernay Agency was founded in 1999. In addition, she launched several lifestyle and promotion networks such as Urban Beauty Collective.
